GPA Calculator: Calculate Your Grade Point Average
Our GPA Calculator helps you compute your Grade Point Average (GPA) from your course grades and credit hours. Whether you're tracking your semester GPA, cumulative GPA, or planning future grades, this tool gives you accurate results using standard 4.0 (unweighted) or 5.0 (weighted) scales.
What This Calculator Does
The GPA Calculator computes your Grade Point Average by:
- Converting letter grades to grade points: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0 (unweighted) or A = 5.0, B = 4.0, etc. (weighted)
- Accounting for credit hours: Each course's contribution to your GPA is weighted by its credit hours
- Supporting +/- grades: A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and other variations are included
- Calculating weighted GPA: Honors and AP courses use the 5.0 scale when weighted mode is selected
This calculator is useful for students, parents, and educators who need to track academic performance, plan course loads, or understand how grades affect overall GPA.
How to Use It
- Select your GPA scale: Choose "Unweighted (4.0 scale)" for standard courses or "Weighted (5.0 scale)" for honors/AP courses
- Add your courses: For each course, enter:
- Grade: Select the letter grade (A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, or F)
- Credit Hours: Enter the number of credit hours for the course (typically 1-5)

- Add more courses: Click "Add Course" to include additional courses
- Remove courses: Click the delete icon to remove a course (requires at least one course)
- Click "Calculate" to see your GPA results
You can add as many courses as needed to calculate semester GPA, cumulative GPA, or projected GPA.
Interpreting Your Results
- GPA: Your Grade Point Average on a 0.0-4.0 (unweighted) or 0.0-5.0 (weighted) scale, rounded to 2 decimal places
- Total Credit Hours: Sum of all credit hours for the courses entered
- Total Grade Points: Sum of grade points × credit hours for all courses
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Mixing weighted and unweighted courses: If you have both regular and honors/AP courses, you may need to calculate them separately or use weighted mode for all courses
- Incorrect credit hours: Make sure you're entering the correct credit hours for each course (often 3-4 for college courses, 1-2 for high school courses)
- Using wrong grade format: Enter letter grades exactly as shown (A, B+, C-, etc.) rather than percentages or other formats
- Forgetting about +/- grades: A- (3.7) is different from A (4.0), so be precise with your grade entries
